    Calling out Jack!

Management and coworkers were expecting more of a New York turnout from the Giants fans and all. It was not to be thus far. My guess is that too many fans budgeted their money for the game last 9/9/07. With this game too close to the end of Christmas, travel for some was not an option.

Anybody who has ever played the game of football, yet lived in a warm weather climate no doubt wished they were in Green Bay this day. How fun is it to play in the snow and to slip slide on a green white field? Visibility makes for a fun afternoon. Add an element of no time limit, you'd play for hours. I had this luxury three times when a youngster in Northern Illinois. Never in New Jersey, although the Flexible Flyer was a handy device on ice days...

I was flashing back to 2002 when Michael Vick and the Falcons waltzed into Lambeau Field and pulled off the upset of the Pack. I was thinking this when the Seahawks grabbed a 14-0 lead. Then, like the perfect script and dream, everything began to change.

Old timers who would watch any old films on 'This Is The NFL' fell in love with the audio bites of John Facenda or Harry Kalas when speaking about Packer Teams in the 60's playing on 'the frozen tundra'. It wouldn't be a playoff game without snow and the other factor-the rabidness of the Packer fans. You envision some of the great classical music that matched the tempo of the audio and you were hooked!

Brett Favre was doing a solid job of playing conductor to the orchestra. A 42-6 run after trailing by 14 was made to look too easy. I was pleasantly shocked. I don't think it matters who the Pack plays next week. It appears that they will be ready to go.

I like Jack Del Rio. I love Jack Del Rio! I really wish he was the guy coaching the Cowboys. His intensity is just what might take that team over the top. For a while, I wanted to believe David Garrard and company might stick it to the Pats. Not so! Destiny is now 2 games away for this team from Massachusetts as they tie the record Miami set in 1972 with the winner of the Colts-Chargers up next. It should be Indy. If San Diego does the unthinkable, there would be some revenge on the line in lieu of the way the 14-2 Chargers choked at home last year against the Pats. New England bends but doesn't break. Great win 31-20 and two wins away from immortality...

Tomorrow will mark 34 years since I saw the Vikings gets stopped cold by the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII at Rice Stadium in Houston. 24-7 was the final and I remember Larry Csonka ran over us for 133 yards. Bob Griese threw only seven passes and completed six. 34 years of needless suffering. If Dallas loses tomorrow, all Cowboy fans will know how I felt that Hail Mary day 12/28/75 when Drew Pearson pushed off on Nate Wright for a 17-14 win.

Happy Football viewing win or lose!

Over and out in Big D
