    On This Day...

Certain days of the calendar year just jump out at me. If I say 'JFK assassination' I would bet that you would tell me the date and where you were...The day Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive...The day John Lennon was murdered...on and on and on. Not to dwell on death dates so much, but to speak of things that are worthwhile in life too! To wit...

Happy Birthday Angie Everhart! A spry 38 years young, and romantically linked with Joe Pesci-Nice!

Buddy Holly born this day in 1938. The pride of Lubbock Texas would still be alive if he hadn't lost a coin flip to Waylon Jennings for sitting in the back of a plane. Ironically...

Drummer Keith Moon passed away this day in 1978-A Thursday. I am and was a HUGE Who fan! What made this weird was that right before his death he watching 'The Buddy Holly Story'! Want even more weird? How about passing away in the same locale where Mama Cass died after choking on a Ham sandwich 7/29/74? That locale in question-Owned by Paul McCartney! That's a whole lot of needless cowinky dink!

This day in 1979, a Friday, a sports station originally began operations to show Hartford Whalers hockey and Connecticut based sports is now better known as ESPN. Still trying to imagine life without ESPN and MTV...

This day in 1997, I had my last drinkfest while watching the Broncos put a whupping on the Seattle Seahawks in the Kingdome 35-14. The Stanford tandem of John Elway and Ed McCaffrey were unstoppable! Four months later, Denver won it's first Super Bowl over the Cheeseheads 31-24...

Everyone loves a feel-good story. One where a man overcomes adversity and turns his life around. America was beginning to become enamored with the whole saga of Cardinal ballplayer Rick Ankiel...until today's news report of HGH usage in 2004. While I await details of what Rick used prior to the banning of said substances, once again players and fans are forced to deal with an air of distrust amongst the very people whose salaries we pay. I also expect full scrutiny placed upon Rick Ankiel if he isn't forthright with the truth.

I believe TCU can and will beat Texas tomorrow night in Austin. I also think V Tech will be wearing LSU skid marks all the way back home.

There is always talk of a 'revenger' in pro football. That is to say you play a team that made you look bad in a previous meeting. October 23rd 2006, The NY Giants made Dallas pay dearly 39-23. That night Romo-mania was born. I expect a close defensive battle Sunday night and a 16-13 win for the Cowboys. Terry Glenn and Terry Newman will be no go's. I expect a huge night for DeMarcus Ware! Michael Strahan will be a non factor.

Lock of the week: It better be Minnesota over the Falcons. Curious to see how Adrian Peterson does on his opening game in the Purple and White.

The Texas Rangers have now won 10 of 12 ballgames. Two games back of 3rd place, and eight games below 500! There is much to look forward to for 2008 if this team can avoid a 23-42 start next April and May. The pitching and defense are coming around! Two straight six inning shutout starts for Vicente Padilla and Edison Volquez! I love it! To a series sweep of Oakland. Next week the final Texas home stand shall begin which means...

Full attention now turned to hockey and the Dallas Stars! Meet and Greet tomorrow in Dallas' Galleria. Uniform unveiling on 9/14th for season ticket holders. I am so there! 2007-2008 will be the season Mike Modano becomes the all-time American point leader! Just get me to the playoffs is all! October 5th can arrive tomorrow-I AM READY!

Lots of Giants fans in Big D for Sunday's football game. I'll be ready for them. I will be dipping into the grape flavored REDLINE for a second wind:) Be afraid...Be VERY AFRAID! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

Over and out in Big D

    Mr Will
