    Ride the Superstition Trend.

Superstitious? No? Perhaps it's time I create a new trend/superstition to get you all worked up. How else can you possibly explain SEVEN teams in the Top 25 getting upset this very day in the NCAA? Two of the biggest right here in Big 12 country...

I am calling this 'The Curse of the Beantown Goat'. Simply stated, any time both the Cubs and Red Sox clinch a playoff spot on the same day, seven teams in the top 25 will falter. How else to explain the 3,4,5, and seven teams to falter so badly? A stretch yes, but consider...

Usually when you look bad on the road one year and you rematch at home, you will usually get your revenge. That was not the case for Texas and Florida at the hands of K-State and Auburn. I will forever remember the look of that little blonde boy with tears streaming down his face as the Sooners fell at the gun in Colorado 27-24. Oklahoma at one point led 24-7! A team with 240 points for the season struggled to make ten percent of a return on scoring.

I felt the biggest upset of the weekend was also in Florida as USF knocked 3 West Virginia off the map! Another example of a team who wins a matchup two years in a row. No one seems to remember! Running back Smith and QB Steve Slaton looked to be a bit banged up in the 21-13 loss.

Perhaps no one will knock USC off their holy pedestal of success, but an argument might be made for the Cal Golden Bears after their stunning win at Autzen Stadium with time running out. That was the marquee game of the day! I talk alot about how great the Big 12 and SEC are. I must retract and state that Pac 10 can dance with almost anyone.

The moment you think a game is an absolute no brainer guarantee for a win, that's when you make mistakes and lose. Call me crazy, but even if the Cowboys get to 5-0 to battle New England on 10/14th, I still sense a trap game awaits them at the hands of the Rams and perhaps Buffalo. More so the Bills with Steve Jackson injured.

I look for my Vikings (Sorry Stephanie!) to stick it to Brett Favre and the Cheeseheads tomorrow in Minnesota. I am also expecting a war in the Meadowlands when New York and Philly throwdown again on Sunday night.

If for any reason the New York Mets do not make the playoffs, 2007 will go down as the biggest collapse in the month of September since the Phillies of 1964 under the tutelage of Gene Mauch. How one loses eight straight at home in stretch time baffles me. Nice to see Mr Maines right the ship, if only for a day...

Lets see, between the Red Sox, Angels, Indians, and Cubs you are talking about four titles in 296 years. That makes what the Yankees have done-26 titles in 87 years-all the more impressive. I now go on record to state that the Red Sox and Indians will battle for the A.L.C.S. with the Cubs and Diamondbacks to do the same in the N.L.C.S. Contrary to a few of my geek friends, this will not be a rematch of 2000 or 2001 nor 1998 or even 1932 or 1938! Red Sox, Cubs...I'm repeating this mantra until I am blue in the face!

Nice exhibition win for the Stars tonight over the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 in their last tuneup before heading to Denver Wednesday night to tango with the Avalanche. Newbies like Chris Cooper and Kris Barch look promising. Still a crap shoot to begin the '07-'08 season. Unlike Thursday night, three times the shots on goal on this night. Oh, hoe the ladies LOVE that 4 Vincent LaCavalier! Lotsa jerseys with that number in the back!

Have a great Sunday friends! It will be a long day at work keeping Cowboys and Rams fans happy.

Over and out in Big D

    Mr Will
