The Final Exhibition.
North Texas is enjoying a heat wave that should have happened back in July and August instead of now. For some of the locals it is a bit of an adjustment to have to switch from crickets and heat to ice and cold. When November hits, it is important to always have a sweater handy.
Less than 24 hours from detaching from my number one love, I have regreased the wheels within my head to get ready for six months of cold fury and headhunting-Hockey! I love the loyalty and passion that hockey fans have. It takes a few years bit there's also a lingo that comes with the territory. Never a dull moment!
This night the Stars held their next to last home exhibition game against the Phoenix Coyotes. The new look Arizona squad with ex-Avalanche goalie Joe Aebischer and ex Blackhawk Vrbata. Despite being outshot 28-9 Dallas won this game by way of the shootout 3-2! The refs for the most part let both teams play away.
I tell you what: Stars fans just want to see their team get past the first round of the playoffs, to get that 'one and done' stigma off their backs! Having been so successful at the shootout in the last two years, I believe that Stu Barnes, more than Jussi Jokinen, may be the catalyst behind the overtime wins when they happen.
Otherwise tonight's game was an exercise in futility. The transition game was non-existent for Dallas, and moving the puck just wasn't happening. Still a week before the real season begins. I'm really not sure what to make of the '07-'08 team. I will merely be there to watch and enjoy with and without camera amongst the many fans and friends I have made in the last five years. It was great to see Miss Stephanie during the break. I have an ad-libbed parody in the works for that Zany Lady's hockey show (Mondays on 990 Foxsports) just about ready that all hockey fans will approve of!
Tomorrow night: Friday night lights-Arlington Lamar style in a rematch with Duncanville. Homecoming night should be a memorable evening!
Over and out in Big D
