    Tirades, Birthdays, and Dwellar Plays

I haven't had a chance to comment on the haps of the weekend due to work and a birthday, but I will attempt to do so now...

There was a discussion I was having with a coworker. In regards to the 'tirade' Cowboy coach Mike Gundy had over a fluff piece written by a not-so-funny wannabe journalist (Jenni Carlson), I actually sided with the Coach for what he had to say. My friend believes the coach will be fired at season's end, while I hope not.

I probably would have said something off to the side and maybe scripted a little better, but the overall gist of his message hit home for every parent who wants to make sure their childs best interests are being met. Who the hell cares that a Mom feeds her son chicken? Works pretty well for Donovan and Mama McNabb...

Donovan, thanks for doing what you do so well on Sunday. Shut me and the rest of the doubters up by placing a 42 spot in one half. Nice. Now I have two words for you-REX GROSSMAN! There is no one more hated in Chicago at this time. Believe that! What Dallas was able to do in the Windy City was fun to watch.

Unless there is a complete meltdown, and with Stephen Jackson out with injury, there's a very good chance the showdown on October 14th will pit two 5-0 teams in Dallas. Tony Romo, you remind me of a mobile Fran Tarkenton in the pocket. Nicely done! T.O. I was expecting to be a problem child. He has been damn near a star-child. A pleasant and unexpected surprise. Lets see for how long this shall last. Anthony Henry-PRO BOWL, baby!

I am not a Milton Bradley fan per se, but I side with him on this latest incident of what can happen (badly) when you can't control your temper. No he didn't throw a bat at an umpire, and why Mike Winters chose to call him a piece of %$^ is anyone's guess. If there is such a thing as umpire baiting, it needs to be dealt with as harshly as when a ballplayer questions an ump and gets tossed. Bad temper, torn ACL, gone for the year. Poor choices Milton Bradley. I hear the board games are a lot safer.

Tomorrow I will feel a little wistful as another baseball season comes to an end. Matters not how many times you experience the end, you never like it nor get used to it. Out of 81 possible home games, 2007 saw yours truly make some 74 visits in the dead of frigid, stifling heat, floodlike rains, and the breeziest of sunny. Another year to rebuild for the Rangers, yes, but I will renew and I will return for the love of the game. What else am I going to do? I'll wish Ron Washington better things in 2008. Opening Day and the last day are more of an emotional roller coaster for fans much like when you meet the right one on a first date and then when the night is over you know you'll never see her again. A moment you never want to end, yet sadly it must...

This has got to be a first. A night when Tampa Bay, Texas, Florida, Washington, and Pittsburgh-all cellar dwellars-manage to defeat teams with playoff aspirations? The Giants almost made it a clean sweep except for Brian Giles in the 9th inning. Boston now has a 3 game lead and will win the East like I have said all along. Congrats to Prince Fielder as he became the youngest player to reach 50 homers (23) in baseball history. In defeat, A Rod became the first ballplayer since Sammy Sosa in 2001 to have 50 taters and 150 rbi's. He will no doubt be the MVP with favorable mention given to Magglio Ordonez.

I predict Mark Cuban will make it to the 3rd round of 'Dancing With The Stars'...I also readily admit that I am a huge fan of 'The Contender', that boxing reality TV series on ESPN. It's a rush to see two fighters battle like warriors to the death. I liked it better when Sly and Sugar Ray made regular appearances.

Heather Locklear, Cathy Zeta Jones, Mike Douglas, Will Smith all one year older. John Bonzo Bonham perished this day in 1980. Son Jason now the drummer with the Led Zep faction on tour. I'd pay to see it!

Dont look now but Christmas is now but 91 days away. Time to get that shopping done! Meantime look for Jerry Jones to bring the Brinks truck on Tony Romo's behalf, and soon!

Tomorrow will be my last 2007 visit to Rangers ballpark. Thursday my attention goes full-time to Dallas Stars hockey. I look forward to an interesting campaign. I also look forward to cooler weather, firing up the fireplace, and more moments with Green Tea.

Over and out in Big D

    Mr Will
