Start Your Engines!!!
Finally, a warm sunny 60 degree day in North Texas after what I can only describe as unseasonably cold air made it's way south and stayed here. No fair. With the third of six matinee starts for the Dallas Stars I was ready with camera as the mind raced...
Two goals apiece for Mike Ribeiro and Jere Lehtinen in a 5-2 Dallas victory at the AAC. Only one point now separates Dallas and San Jose in the Pacific division. In their last eight games the Stars are 6-1-1. Very nice!
I actually watched the final 25 laps of todays Daytona and cannot believe the way Mark Martin had victory snatched from his grasp. After 26 years, can't a vet get a break? 3 laps from a win and Kevin Harvick breaks his heart and wins by 2 1/100ths of a second!!! Somewhere in heaven Dale Earnhardt is chuckling. Do you remember where you were this day in 2001 when Dale perished? I was somewhere between South Colorado and New Mexico. That's when I heard the news...
As if that weren't enough, Phil Mickelson leads the Riviera for three days and has a one stroke lead on Charles Howell III for the first 16 holes, only to lose in sudden death. The short putt was Phil's bugaboo again. I'd rather get blown out than lose so close that you taste blood. UGH!
Las Vegas was quite the spot for the NBA All-Star Game which the West dominated. I saw the first half and was amazed at the 39 field goals attempted by the West. Even with all the injuries, the game was very entertaining. I laughed when Shaq kissed Tracy MacGrady after a dunk. Then I thought of Tim Hardaway.
Is Madison Avenue paying attention? Has anyone thought about using Tim Hardaway in a Snickers commercial? Remember the Super Bowl ad that ran and was pulled for being too homophobic? I say run that ad again and right when the two guys kiss, have Tim walk up and say, 'I Love Everybody! And I Love my snickers. I also have no hair to pull so forget about being manly, you dig?' Okay, it was just an idea.
Spring training underway in Arizona and Florida. I'll hit the baseball harder as March approaches. I simply await the start of the Rangers home season on April 6th with the Bosox...
In between an All-Star game, Nascar, hockey, and PGA golf, I am wondering how many people are getting fired up about Fat Tuesday falling one day after President's Day? Locally, the one place I will not go near is Lower Greenville in North Dallas. Too many crazies to deal with and cops everywhere. Then again I remind cops that if they want to have some real fun with a drunk, just ask for 'valid IQ'...watch what happens-LOL!
Happy to say that my jogging efforts have gotten me to the 2.15 mile mark. Just saying that makes my head spin. It has been YEARS! One thing I must be better about is all the before and after stretching. Baby steps for this middle aged fool.
By Tuesday we may be hitting 75! Warm weather on tap for the rest of the week. That has me very excited!
Have a great President's Day and Fat Tuesday. If you like the thought of crawfish races-no betting please-come see me in Las Colinas! A fun time guaranteed!
Book lovers-Matty W turned me on to this one. 'The 5 People You Meet in Heaven' by Mitch Albom will grab your attention and take you to a special place...
