    Embracing the Youth Push

Hard to fathom for some that as we reach the halfway point of 2006, the Rangers are in a first place tie with Oakland!!! Yes, it's a weak division, and yes the Rangers have had better years. With Adam Eaton, Kameron Loe, and Franky Francisco soon to return, I wish to address a youth movement issue.

Next to Tampa Bay, Texas has the second youngest core group of starers. One key acquisition the Rangers made back in late May was the addition of Jerry Hairston Jr in the outfield. Dusty Baker spoke volumes about this man. Jerry has shown flashes of brilliance with the bat and the glove. As 2006 winds down, look for the tandem of Junior, Junior, and DeRosa to be a more stable force in the outfield! Texas' team age average is 26.4 where Tampa is closer to 25.6.

I am a HUGE believer in surrounding yourself with youth, enthusiasm, and a semblance of a core group of leader/mentor-like folk! Millwood, Padilla, Koronka, Loe, and Eaton may not strike fear into the heart of an opponent yet, but rest assured the direction you want this young ballclub to go has been established! Good things lie ahead for those who want to see a remnant of what Johnny Oates used to do in these parts. You're about to get your wish!

David Ortiz is my pick to win the Home Run Derby. American League to win again by a 5-2 count. Gary Matthews Jr will go yard in this game.

    Make it a great day!

Over and out in Big D
