    Get My Popcorn Ready!

A rare Friday the 13th, but one with a few memories attached. It was on the day in 1995 that Todd Baker would introduce me to Norm Gregory. It was also the time that Seattle was in a lather as their Mariners were in Cleveland with hopes of a World Series dancing in their heads. It's also a day loaded with birthdays, most notably Sammy Hagar, Paul Simon, Jerry Jones, Quincy Carter, and Carrie Fisher. My Friday actually started on the telly in L.A.

Playing the first of two late games against the Kings, a team that gave the Stars fits last year, Thursday Dallas played like a team in midseason form with a 4-1 win. Three assists for Eric Lindros, two goals for Captain Morrow, and Mike Modano got into the scoring act. Marty Turco is showing no ill effects from last April, and a rare 3-0 start is what the Stars have to show for it. I really like the front line of Modano, Lindros, and Morrow. Lindros provides a dynamic that Jason Arnott apparently lacked. The Pacific Western division in '06-07' will resemble a tune by the Escape Club-The Wild Wild West. Kings and Stars lace em up again Saturday night before Dallas heads to Anaheim to play the Ducks. No more 'Mighty', just Ducks.

This day in 1960 Bill Mazeroski hits a walk off homer against the Yankees in a 10-9 affair. Images of Yogi Berra agonizing as the ball sailed into the Forbes Field frenzy. I wonder if Bob Prince was there saying, 'You can kiss this one goodbye!'. The series was weird in that New York outscored Pittsburgh in the series winning their games in a 13-2 fashion while the Pirates would eke out one run victories. The series win erased a four game sweep in 1927 courtesy of Murderer's Row.

Weather might be at issue this Sunday when the Cowboys and Texans kick off at noon. Local forecast calls for heavy rain and maybe some thunderboom action. And that's BEFORE Terrell Owens opens up his mouth and erases all doubt. If I wanted to see a sideshow I'd find a circus or reach for a P T Barnum novel. Note to Jerry Jones: P T Barnum once said 'There's a sucker born every minute.' You proved that last March 18th. This will be a game the Cowboys somehow find a way to win before the Giants knock them on their keister in a Monday Night affair.

It's been five years, but today I am off to the Texas State Fair. In light of what I dealt with last week, I will not be partaking in any fried food. I will however partake in the photographing process. Curious to see what if anything has changed since 2001.

Make it a great weekend and happy football viewing.

Over and out in Big D
