    2 Tigers-2 Tales!

This past week continued on an up note for you fans of the Park Cities. I'll begin with the rematch against the rough and tough Tiger team from Mansfield. Responsible for two of the three Scot losses on ice.

With two athletes academically ineligible, another on suspension, you would think that Highland Park would have the advantage. In the first two meetings, The Scots would take 2-1 leads into the 3rd period only to lose 5-2 and 4-2 and to be outscored 7-0 in that period.

Thursday's game was a defensive scrum from the get go. Both Jack Boeing and Zack Staab stopped everything before them. Both teams unable to get the passing game going. Scoreless after 2. In the third stanza, Mansfield would score first on a shot that Boeing had caught and let drop...I know the first thought in my mind was,"Not again?" No!

The Scots would tie 'er up at 1 on a goal by Preston Dowdall(assisted by Rick Gillham). FINALLY a 3rd period goal by Highland Park. At about the 9:30 mark (and after Tiger leader Don Le took a painful puck-shot-to-the-extremities)Preston Dowdall fired off a perfect pass to Jeff Condry (standing by the left crease) for a stunning 2-1 Scots victory. The win stopped a 3 game skein to the Tigers dating back to the playoffs last April.

Highland Park now improves to 13-3-1. Their next victory shall match their win total for all of 2003-2004. One Tiger has been tamed with one more rematch March 10th. Twas a joyous locker room after the game for Highland Park...

Back on January 18th, The Lady Scots would make easy work of the Terrell Tigers 63-44 as Allison Keller hit anything that moved, collecting 30 points.

Last night was Seniors Night at the Field House and Terrell the visitor. Some lovely pregame presentations for 6 Arc Angels: Maisie Allison, Stephanie Holford, Kate Hooper, Meggie Taylor, Ashley May,and Lucy Lawson. Maisie got the loudest pre-game applause and for good reason. After a torn ACL set her back for the season, she came out to play for the first minute and the crowd roared!

Maggie Deichert led all scorers with 28 points as Highland Park would enjoy a 15-0 run in period 2 to roll by the Lady Tigers of Terrell 74-40.

Attempts to get Deichert the ball to reach 30 were futile. GREAT job of passing the ball around and excellent D from the usual suspects: Lawson, May, Taylor, and Deichert. The victory places them at 4-5 in district play (15-13 overall).

With one road game remaining at West Mesquite, The Lady Scots need to win and then hope a few things happen. We may very well see a playoff game or first round 'bye' should HP win next Tuesday.

Earlier in the week the Lady Scots could not get untracked against a very tough top ranked Mesquite Poteet team. Actually if you remove the M-E-S and replaced the second E in Poteet with an N you would get a better rationale for the Lady Pirates...QUITE POTENT! They are the best team I have seen in 11-4A play this winter.

Regardless of what happens next Tuesday, this basketball program is going to become a dynasty under the watchful eyes and expertise of Jeff Nowakowski, Buffy Ferguson, and Georgie Swize. This concludes this week's Park Cities update.

Over and out in Big D
