Happy Saturday Everyone! Hope you're having fun doing whatever it is you put your mind to...
Today truly a day for triumph and tragedy historically. Hard to believe 26 years have elapsed since the explosion of the Space Shuttle disaster happened 73 seconds into the mission over Florida's waters. Seven astronauts were aboard including schoolteacher Christa MacAuliffe. Seen on national television I recall being so angered and saddened at that instant of lives changed forever. It still rankles today when I give it a little thought.
Coming off a 1989 season in which the 49ers were 7 points short of perfection. The tandem of Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Tom Rathman and Roger Craig created all kinds of havoc en route to a 14-2 season and a huge Super Bowl blowout of the Denver Broncos this day in 1990 by a 55-10 score in New Orleans, La. Each week seemed to produce magic by the bay except for the foot of Mike Lansford in Week 4 and the Magic Man a few weeks later...
Cowboys fans rejoiced on this day 16 years ago when, on their third attempt, would they succeed at defeating their long time nemesis the Pittsburgh Steelers with an assist from Neal O'Donnell tossing 2 interceptions to Larry Brown in the 4th quarter of a 27-17 Cowboys win. The first time Phoenix, Arizona played host. Troy Aikman was on and the Cowboys won their 3rd trophy in 4 years. Nothing since.
This time of year is not a fun one for football fans who wish the season was year-long with fantasy picks to address daily. Alas, after next week the pigskin talk will wane as we look ahead to the summer months and of course a draft in April to see who goes where.
Starting Monday the eyes of the world will be on Indianapolis, Indiana. Safe bet to say that weather will not hamper the midwest as it did North Texas 1 year ago this week. A week I would much rather forget.
I will be looking forward to all the hype, talk, predictions, soundbites, off the field fluff and stuff, and speculations as we near the start of Super Bowl 46. I also look for the Giants to win again. Some of the personalities on 'NFL Network' absolutely crack me up. This will be a fun week to watch the kids in Indiana and Culver City, Ca.
Great win last night over the Jazz for the Mavericks as they scored 116 points. Highest output of any game in 2011-2012. Roddy B looks to be gaining confidence and swagger in his game! Weird to see both Devin Harris and Josh Howard in Jazz colors. I wish them well.
Dallas now plays the Spurs on Sunday while the Texas Legends will battle their Rockets affiliate from Rio Grande, the Vipers. I will be at both games tonight and tomorrow. I already see a good cigar in my immediate future...
Peyton Manning: You had a great career. Just retire! Don't do a Joe Namath, Franco Harris, Johnny Unitas, or Emitt Smith and play one more year in a city away from where you made your imprint! Retire as a Colt. Thank you!
NFL Pro Bowl and NHL All-Star game tomorrow on the television if you need something to do. Take the over on both! No defense for these showcases, trust me...
Time to houseclean. January has just flown by!!!
Make it a great day.
Over and out in Big D.
