Hello and Happy Hump Day America.
Today is one of those days you just wish you could curld up with a good book or partner and sleep the day away. After a night of heavy thunder and rains North Texas looks more like a candidate for flood relief as the amount of rainfall has created all kinds of havoc on the roadways with more on the way. Indeed rare to experience spring like weather in the dead of winter. In a way bad weather can make you a hostage to remain indoors. Then it occurred to me...
On this day in 1981 the Super Bowl was played in New Orleans with the Raiders and Eagles. On this day Oakland played large courtesy of three interceptions by Rod Martin for a 27-10 win. Yes there was an 80 toss to Cliff Branch from Jim Plunkett and Oakland dominated their way to a title. That wasn't the big news story that day. Even with the sight of Pete Rozelle handing Al Davis the Vince Lombardi trophy! No sir...
That day marked the end of a 444 day ordeal for a group of 52 American hostages since a hostile takeover of the American Embassy in Iran on 11/3/79. Although technically released a few days earlier arrival on American soil was on this day.
The reasons for this happening exceed my realm of the sporty world. 8 billion dollars a new president later, they were released. A loud clap of thunder just took me out of this flashback moment. On the heels of bright lightning...how appropriate! Time to prep for a busy day of work ahead. Hard to believe that we are now almost a year removed from all the pomp and circumstance that enveloped us in the name of the Super Bowl...
Last night marked a 5 year annniversary since an All-Star game played here in Dallas. A much needed win for a team struggling to get out of the #11 seed in the Western Conference. Let's hope the All-Star break does wonders for the local kids.
Make it a great day!
Over and out in Big D.
